Treating Your Neuropathy with MLS Laser Therapy: How It Works

Treating Your Neuropathy with MLS Laser Therapy: How It Works

As medical science advances, new treatments enter the scene. That’s particularly exciting for people dealing with a chronic condition like neuropathy.

In recent years, more and more research has revealed the effectiveness of laser therapy for neuropathy. Using specialized types of lasers to generate energy where your cells need it could be a game-changer for your neuropathy symptoms.

Because we’ve treated patients with neuropathy for years, our team at Vittori Foot & Ankle Specialist is always on the lookout for new treatments that can improve their condition. We’ve seen firsthand how multiwave locked system (MLS) laser therapy helps people with nerve damage. As a result, we’ve chosen to offer it at our offices in Homer Glen and New Lenox, Illinois.

Talk with Christopher Vittori, DPM, or Ameet Thakrar, DPM, to find out if this leading-edge treatment is right for you. Here’s a brief overview to help you better understand MLS laser therapy.

How MLS laser therapy works

MLS laser therapy is a noninvasive, comfortable treatment. During it, we use a sophisticated laser system to deliver two wavelengths of light energy into the treatment area. The two wavelengths help to fight inflammation and ease pain while stimulating your cells.

When the laser reaches your cells, it supplies them with energy they can use for healing and generating new cells. The laser may also help to improve blood flow to your nerves. As a result, this treatment can help your body reconnect nerve cells, fighting your neuropathy symptoms by treating them at their source.

What to expect with MLS laser therapy for neuropathy

Before we get started with laser therapy, we make sure you’re a good candidate for it. Dr. Thakrar or Dr. Vittori talks with you about your neuropathy symptoms and your lifestyle choices. Your doctor might also examine your feet or order tests to get a better idea of how your nerve damage affects you.

If we decide that you’re likely to benefit from MLS laser therapy, we create a treatment plan for you. On average, we recommend 7–10 treatment sessions. You should start to see some improvement after the first few sessions.

Each round of MLS laser therapy takes an average of eight minutes. You might feel some sensation as the laser goes to work, but it should be completely comfortable.

After your initial round of laser therapy, we might schedule periodic maintenance sessions to keep your neuropathy under control.
